It was over a couple of Guludo Sunrise’s and a Sinking Dhow (just two of our barman Nascir’s famous beverages) that three wise heads came together and it proved to yield some inspirational results!
Like any charity worth its salt, the Nema Foundation is constantly looking for new ways to raise the necessary funds for our many highly important projects. So it was on this one moon-lit night the decision was made to just grab the bull by the horns and start making use of the materials we had available at our finger tips. The first project that we’ve undertaken is the production of a range of Nema bags. These bags are all locally made in the surrounding villages and are made with hand-made ‘Kappolana ‘cloth. These colourful materials are what are really making these bags the talk of the town with all the profits going directly to Nema projects. The 3 different types of bag range from a large colourful holdall to two smaller reversible day-to-day bags.
For us these bags are just the start of an exciting new dawn of local enterprise. We are currently in the process of building a new extension in which we will display and sell the arts and crafts of local artisans at the lodge. Everyone stands to benefit, the tailors, the guests and most of all Nema. Now you must see it for yourselves!
Check out our Facebook page for photos of the bags.
