Schools reopened in January 2011, and we are thrilled to announce that Nema is now supporting 127 children with secondary school scholarships. That's a staggering 42 more students than last year!
Competition for places is always stiff and this year we received a record number of applications from eager students desperate to continue with their studies. This is incredibly encouraging, when this project started in 2007 there were only a handful of children finishing primary school and applying for scholarships. However, primary school attendance has rocketed in the last few years and it is by no small part due to Nema's school feeding, construction and scholarship projects.
Nema awards the scholarship places according to socioeconomic status and academic merit, and we’d like to say a huge congratulations to all the successful candidates.
It costs just £60 to give a child a secondary school scholarship for a year.
We'd also like to say a special thank you to Guludo guests for their support, especial to Laura Tenison (and Jojo Maman Bebe), plus Paddy LeFluffy for all his hard work while helping Nema in Guludo and his valiant fundraising.
