Rob and Jos run Explore Gorongosa, the first ecotourism private venture in Gorongosa and our guests' most popular safari add-on to Guludo. So when Rob asked if we were interested in taking on two hardy guides during their off season we leapt at the opportunity.
We all eagerly anticipate their arrival. What would they look like? Would they have a different accent? What would they think of the Quirimbas National Park and what sort of watches would they wear?
They arrived on our sandy doorstep tired, but in the best of spirits. Who wouldn’t be after seeing the sea for the first time!
One tour of the lodge later and they were right at home,
excitedly spotting new birds and animals they had never seen at Gorongosa.
They were an absolute delight and didn't waste any time teaching Idris and Tabara about guiding while spending time in each department gaining valuable work experience to take back with them to Gorongosa.
Their time to head back to Gorongosa came all too quickly, but they certainly left a lasting impression, leaving several Mozambican budding twitchers! Now, whenever the restaurant is quiet, you'll see Tabara with either his nose in a bird book or binoculars in hand!
We wish Silva, Samuel, and the whole Explore Gorongosa team, a wonderful 2011. Karibuni tena!

The Gorongosa National Park
The Gorongosa National Park was once the best park in Africa. Now, the park is being restored and open for visitors. National Geographic made an award-winning film about the park last year, which they aptly named Africa's Lost Eden.
Once again, Mozambique can be proud of her world-class safari experiences.
