Claire Bennison came to stay in Guludo not long after we first opened our doors; kindly obliging to help us develop our cocktail menu! She innocently chose Guludo to escape "The City" (London) and do a PADI Advanced course, completely unaware of quite where it would lead her!
Fast forward to 2009 and to our horror (and delight), we watched Claire swim, a gruling 16 hours, accross the English Channel to raise funds for Nema. A phenomenal acheivement.
Now, she's raised the bar even higher and on the 4th August will attempt the Super Six. This involves consecutively swimming and climbing the three highest peaks and longest lakes in Britian; Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Windermere, Snowdon and Bala.
To understand the scale of the challenge…
- Twice as many people have conquered Everest than swam the Channel.
- Ten times as many people have swam the Channel than Loch Lomond.
- Swimming Loch Lomond will be just the first of 6 consecutive challenges for Claire
- No one has ever completed this solo before.
Why on earth is she doing this? Claire is trying to raise funds for Nema's scholarship project. Less than 1% of children in the Guludo area have the opportunity to go to secondary school and just £100 covers a full scholarship for a whole year. Claire's target is to support 50 students, if you think you can help please visit her Fundraising Page.
Neal and I (Guludo founders), are part of the support team and will be tweeting (@ClaireSuperSix) and blogging (www.ClaireSuperSix.tumblr.com) her progress.
Good luck Claire!
