"Make no mistake, this is a rare place. It's hard, actually, to add much to the reviews on this site, as the superlatives are all absolutely merited. Tranquil, sybaritic, unspoiled, beautiful, stunning – all of those and more.
"But I think there are two things that set Guludo apart from the other high-end lodges dotted across the Quirimbas.
"One is something that another reviewer wrote: Guludo wants to be a part of Mozambique, not apart from it. The lodge reflects and builds on the charm and beauty of this remote corner of Africa, rather than trying to create a luxury bubble set apart. No spa, no hot tubs, no water-skiing – and infinitely the better for it.
"And the second is that the management and staff know this. You get the impression that for them this is not just another job, but a project in which they take pride, a lodge on a mission. We arrived at dusk by dhow from another island and the managers and staff came down to meet us on the beach, carrying lanterns, greeting us as if we were old friends. That’s the sort of rare place that Guludo is. Get there as soon as you can!"
