154 More Children Receive School Meals

files/QUIRIMIZE school feeding project.jpg

What an incredible day – one of the highlights of the last 6 years working here in Mozambique. Words cannot describe watching 154 children taste their first school meal and knowing that they now have a chance of developing healthily, giving their bodies the armour needed to fight malaria, TB, cholera and those who are HIV+ , to live a longer life. Not only this, now parents are encouraging their children to go to school giving more children access to education.

The impact of this project is phenomenal and also instantaneous. Children are literally given a better chance of survival as well as an education.

The start of this feeding project felt even more poignant due to the terrible rains this year and crops that have been successfully harvests are few and far between and for communities that rely so heavily on agriculture it is an absolute disaster.

Now there are 550 children receiving daily school meals.

Eva, Assane, Jamal and I spent the morning weighing, measuring and photographing children (which included a couple of very tiny and under-age children who we were told were “volunteer students”) while a mother from Guludo village showed a group of mothers how to make the porridge.

The food is a made from soya with some added supplements and provides the child with 80% of their needs in a day.

Alongside the feeding project Nema is working with the schools to develop school farms which will one day replace the food bought in central Mozambique.

Thank You
Global Angels have fundraised for all these feeding projects and have given 550 children both hope and a healthier childhood. Behalf of all the children, their parents’ and everyone here THANK YOU!

Feed a Child for a Year
Global Angels and Nema are desperately fundraising to both continue and expand this incredible project. To feed a child for a year and to make a small donation to help with the running of a school farm costs £50. To make a donation please visit www.globalangels.org/fundraiser/guludo.
