Education

Before Nema started work, less than 1% of children went on to study at secondary school and less than 20% completed all 7 years at primary school. The underlying reason being the prohibitive cost and need for children to help gather food.

School Feeding Project
In 2006, 80 children regularly attended Guludo Primary School. Afrter the Global Angels feeding project started in January 2007 264 regularly attended for the whole year. Last year there were over 300 children recieving a nutritious meal a day and regularly attending. Now we have expanded this project to four further villages and...

now, in 2010, we provide a total of 803 children a nutritious meal every school day.

This increases in school attendance reflect the severe food shortages and value for food in the Guludo area. Each child receives a nutritious meal providing 80% of the child’s needs for the day. Alongside the feeding project we are supporting the schools in developing school farms to one day replace the food bought from central Mozambique.

Scholarships
So far we have given over 100 students secondary and vocational scholarships which cover all school and boarding fees plus travel for school holidays. We are busy preparing and fundraising for the the new 2011 scholars which who will enroll in January.

Primary Schools
We have built a primary school in Guludo village and are currently half way through building another primary school in Ningaia village (the latter funded by Jojo Maman Bebe).

School Farms
To make the school feeding project sustainable we are supporting chicken and goat farms in the schools to generate an income to buy the food from the new Farmer’s Associations*

How to Help

Nema has achieved a phenomenal amount in a relatively short time which is entirely down to the support we have received from past guests, friends and family.
