Enterprise

By far the majority of the population are subsistence farmers or fishermen. In addition, many villages have small shops, tailors and blacksmiths.

Over 150 people either work at or sell their produce to Guludo Beach Lodge.

Nema are supporting and encouraging existing and budding entrepreneurs to develop their ideas.

Craft Groups
Over the last couple of years we have helped to establish palm-weaving, ceramic and art groups. Together with the Aga Khan Foundation we are currently building a craft centre in Guludo village, a kiln and workshops. Guests at Guludo Beach Lodge are able to buy some of these products directly from the artisans when visiting the groups in Guludo village.

Buy a Nema Ring
DS Dundee are supporting Nema by selling beautiful palm-woven rings hand crafted in Guludo village.
