About 11 years ago, Sikamoja, one of the team building Guludo, was climbing up one of our very old and tall palms to get the coconuts before they dropped on someone or something. At the last moment I asked if he could put my mobile phone in his pocket, to see if there was an all illusive signal up there.
We could barely watch as he swiftly climbed to the top and one by one the coconuts dropped. He was almost done when I heard my phone starting to beep/vibrate and messages poured in. Sikamoja, this being the only mobile he had ever seen, got it out his pocket and at 80ft off the ground, with a thin piece of palm strapped around his heels, he started trying to answer it! We screamed for him to leave it and come down straight away and to this day I feel terrible guilt for so stupidly asking him to take it.
Jump forward to 2015 and the arrival of some stand up paddleboards and all four of the activities team grabbed their phones and started taking photos. What a difference.
